Green diamond is one of the rare diamonds. Natural green diamonds can only be seen in large jewelry auctions and jewelry exhibitions, so the price of green diamonds is very expensive. In 2009, Sotheby's in Geneva auctioned a 2.52-carat Fancy Vivid Green diamond, which was set on a ring and sold for $3.52 million.
Green formation
The green color in the diamond is the result of the collision of the gemstone with the radiation. Natural green diamonds take millions of years to form, and the diamonds that are usually formed are exposed to uranium mixtures or alpha particles of groundwater. Alpha particles turn the surface of the diamond green, but if the diamond encounters both beta and gamma rays, the diamond will have a darker green tone. Only a small portion of the diamond will turn into pure green.
Green diamond color
Its color can be divided into eight types.
Naturally green, only after natural radiation has not undergone a high temperature process, the GR1 color center maintains the cavity state after radiation damage. Even after a natural high temperature process, its time may be short, or the temperature is low, and there is not enough H color to change the green color of the diamond.
