It Is Difficult To Mine Gems In Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is known for producing the finest sapphire. There used to be a wealth of gemstones, but because of the long history of mining, it is now in the embarrassing situation of the depletion of mining areas.

Secondly, for the miners who have obtained the certificates, most of them still use the traditional mining technology, that is, manual excavation (the local government believes that mechanical mining is too serious for environmental damage).

There are two main methods of manual excavation. One is to intercept ore in a rushing river; the other is to hit a mine of 10 to 15 meters, whichever is extremely high risk.
