GIA announces the launch of the Diamond Origination Report (DIAMOND ORIGIN REPORT), which will provide high-resolution images of uncut rough and finished diamonds. Additional information on origin and diamond formation can be inquired via GIA online report or QR code on the certificate of origin.
In fact, based on the GIA Diamond Qualification Report (DIAMOND GRADING REPORT), a place of origin information is added, which still contains the original 4C evaluation, drawing the clarity chart and the GIA certificate number. According to GIA, diamond producers, retailers and mining companies, including ALROSA, have been involved in the diamond origin identification report program. GIA has recorded thousands of rough diamonds and weighed between 0.15 carats and 100 carats.
The new appraisal report is for 0.15 carats and above, D-to-Z color unset diamonds, but the identification process is very complicated. Diamond dealers need to submit uncut diamond rough and related documents in sealed package, and submit the finished product after cutting. GIA will compare raw and finished diamonds through physical testing and other scientific data to confirm the match and issue a certificate.
