Sotheby's Auction: 15.1ct De Beers Cullinan Blue Blue Diamond

On April 27, Sotheby's Hong Kong will auction a 15.10ct stepped cutting Blue Diamond - "De Beers Cullinan blue", valued at HK $380 million (US $48 million).
This diamond is the largest flawless brilliant blue diamond in the auction market so far. It has been identified as type II B diamond by GIA, reaching if clarity and video blue color level. It is also the largest internal flawless stepped cutting brilliant blue diamond identified by GIA so far.
The blue diamond weighs 39.35ct and was mined by the British diamond dealer Petra diamonds in the c-cut area of Cullinan mining area in South Africa in April 2021.
In July 2021, the joint venture between De Beers Group and American diamond cutter diacore acquired the blue diamond for us $40.18 million, named it De Beers Cullinan blue, and cut and polished it.
Sotheby's said that such an important blue diamond is extremely rare. So far, only five blue diamonds with more than 10ct have appeared in the auction market, and none of them has exceeded 15ct. De Beers Cullinan blue will become the first blue diamond of the same grade with more than 15ct in the auction history.
