Karelian diamond resources, a mining company listed on the London Stock Exchange, recently announced that powder diamonds were found in its lahtojoki diamond mine in Finland.

Latoyoki is the first important diamond mine outside Europe and Russia. In 2017, the proved reserves were 2.25 million carats and the mining life is expected to be 9 years.

Latoyoki is very close to two important diamond mines in Russia (Lomonosov and grib) (as shown in the figure below) and is in the same schist area, so it is very promising to become a new "world-class diamond mine".

According to Karelian's official report, gem grade accounts for 60% of the rough diamonds produced by latoyuki.

After the closure of Argyle mine in Australia (November 2020), natural powder diamond resources are becoming more and more rare. The discovery of powder diamond by latoyoki undoubtedly brings a new vitality to the whole diamond industry.
