Difference between Moissanite and Diamond

1. Specific gravity: Moissanite is lighter than diamond, that is, their specific gravity is different, the specific gravity of diamond is 3.52, while the specific gravity of Moissanite is only 3.22. For materials not inlaid, it is easy to distinguish them with methyl iodine specific gravity solution (specific gravity 3.32).
2. Hardness: the hardness of the Moissanite is less than that of the diamond, so the diamond hardness tester will leave a scratch on the surface of the Moissanite, while the scratch tester will not leave a scratch on the surface of the diamond.

3. Refractive index: the refractive index of Moissanite is different from that of diamond, and the reflective characteristics of Moissanite are also different from that of diamond. Experienced diamond appraisers can distinguish the two; In addition, Moissanite has birefringence, so it is not difficult to see the double shadow of Moissanite's prism and bottom tip when carefully observed. At this time, the double shadow will still appear when the observation angle is changed.
4. Polishing grain: The polishing grain of the waist of the Moissanite is parallel to each other, which is completely different from the diamond. Moreover, due to the difference in different directions, the polishing direction should be continuously adjusted during the polishing process of diamonds, while the Moissanite can be polished in the same direction. This is particularly evident between adjacent facets.

5. Cutting: Most of the cut Moissanites have rounded edges, which is completely different from diamonds with sharp edges.
6. Color: Because of the introduction of DF grade color synchronized with diamond in 2015, it is difficult to distinguish the two colors.
