The five-year gold theft case amounted to $180 million. The BBC investigation revealed the truth behind it!

The BBC reported to 45 police officers that: "Based on data from 23 police officers, the largest amount of theft in Greater London was £115.6 million ($152.6 million), followed by £9.6 million in Greater Manchester ( $12.8 million)."

The BBC survey shows that Asians are said to be a special target for robbers. The BBC pointed out that it is a tradition to give gold jewelry at weddings and pass jewelry from generation to generation in families in the UK and Asia.

The BBC added that since 2013, the total value of stolen gold jewelry in the UK has reached $186.6 million, of which nearly 28,000 have been stolen. The BBC stated that this is the first time such data has been compiled.

The London Police Department submitted the most cases of thefts, with a total of 3,300 cases involving a total of 21.2 million pounds ($28 million).

Asian gold sales expert Sanjay Kumar told the BBC that most of the stolen jewellery is very likely to have great cultural significance.

“People’s parents and grandparents tell them, ‘you have to buy gold – it’s an investment that represents luck,’” he said. “This is what Asians do, so people follow tradition and culture.”
