Russian diamond miner Alrosa announced on Wednesday that a newly mined 91.86ct tawny diamond was named kyndykan to commemorate a heroic girl in Russian folklore.

The naming of "kyndykan" is inspired by a little girl in the folklore of Yakuts in Russia. Her Yakut indigenous group was almost extinct due to smallpox in the 18th century. Kyndykan is the only survivor of the whole family, so it is regarded as the spiritual symbol of tenacity and hardness of the nation.
