The Okavango blue diamond before cutting weighed 41.11ct. It was mined from the Orapa mining area in Botswana on May 21, 2018. It is the largest diamond of the same type found in the country so far. It is named after a wild place in Botswana. The Okavango Delta is a tropical swamp where flora and fauna gather.

This blue diamond was cut into a 20.46ct oval blue diamond in New York by a team of 4 diamond cutters, presenting a rich deep blue color and excellent clarity.

The Okavango Blue diamond is currently on display in the Melissa and Keith Meister showroom of the Allison and Roberto Mignone Gem and Mineral Museum. It is exhibited together with the diamond production in Botswana. It is expected to be on display for 6 months. The curator of the museum, George Harlow, said that high-quality blue diamonds are extremely rare, and those that can reach 20ct or more are even more precious.
