Principles of ruby appreciation:
1. Color: The appreciation of ruby mainly depends on its color. The color of ruby should be bright red and pure. Generally, the dark red with medium color concentration is the best, and the price will be reduced if the color is too dark, of which pigeon blood red is the best, followed by rose and pink. In general, Myanmar ruby is bright red and transparent, and its value is higher than that of deep red ruby produced in Thailand. Myanmar's "dove blood red" is the best of rubies.
2. Weight: Like diamonds, the weight of ruby can also be calculated in carats (also known as carats). Under other similar conditions, the value of ruby increases geometrically with the increase of its weight.
3. Clarity: Ruby generally has cracks. Ruby without any cracks and flaws is rare. The so-called "ten red and nine cracks". Impurities are generally obvious in light and medium color rubies, so we should choose darker color rubies, so that impurities can be effectively hidden.
4. Cutting: Unlike diamonds, ruby does not have the "ideal" cutting according to the angle designed by the geometric principle. When checking the cutting of gemstones, you should see whether the cutting will reveal the beauty of gemstones. For example, the ruby with thicker color should be cut shallower so that more light can pass through the gem. For the ruby with lighter color, the deeper cut is beneficial to reflect the color. A well-cut ruby is symmetrical and reflects light evenly on the entire surface. The polishing should be smooth without any cracks or scratches. In addition, a well-cut ruby will not show the color band that often appears in the corundum crystal. The appearance of this color band usually indicates that the cutter wants to retain weight rather than cut the most beautiful gem as far as possible.
